It can be tough to find Halloween-themed entertainment for kids that’s scary but not too scary. We think you can count on this offering from Phoenix Theatre for Children to fit the bill (but not keep you up nights dealing with the nightmares) — a new production of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
It’s an original and musical adaptation of Washington Irving’s classic tale by CATCO-Phoenix Artistic Director Steven C. Anderson, using well-known folk tunes to help tell the story in fun and entertaining fashion. (It’s the one with Ichabod Crane, a snooty sort of a fellow who scoffs at the rumors of a Headless Horseman haunting the countryside until one night when….well, you’ll just have to go see it and find out, now won’t you?)
The show opens this Friday and runs through Oct. 31 (but, of course) at the Vern Riffe Center’s Studio Two Theatre, 77 S. High St. (convenient parking and elevator from the garage beneath the building – you enter on Front St.). The show has a running time of 50 minutes and is appropriate for children of all ages.
Show times for “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” are Fridays at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.; and Sundays at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children and can be purchased at the Ohio Theatre Ticket Office, 39 S. State St., all Ticketmaster outlets, and www.ticketmaster.com.
Patrons interested in purchasing tickets by telephone can call 614.469.0939. The Riffe Center Ticket Office will open two hours before each performance.
