With Thanksgiving fast approaching, many Central Ohioans are looking for ways to help families in need, and some very interesting help starts happening this Saturday.
The Columbus Recreation & Parks Empty Bowls program is a great way for families to help out.
The international program, which locally benefits the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, brings together artists and volunteers who want to alleviate hunger.
In Columbus, park staff, students and volunteers spend weeks making bowls that are given to people who make a donation to the food bank during an "Empty Bowls" event. Organizations around the city host lunches and suppers where they display the bowls and serve soup. For a minimum donation of $10, the public can attend the event, enjoy a bowl of soup and choose a bowl to take home as a reminder of all the "empty bowls" around the world.
Area churches and other organizations will begin hosting events Saturday, Nov. 12. For more details, visit http://parks.columbus.gov/EmptyBowls.aspx.
