Calling all bakers, decorators and gingerbread lovers - this one's for you! To get into the holiday spirit, the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is hosting their annual gingerbread competition.
With four different categories (youth, teen, adult and family), all family members can get involved in the amateur competition. Here's how it works: bring your entry to the Conservatory either Dec. 3 or Dec. 4. Then check out all of the submitted gingerbread houses on display from Dec. 6-30. After Conservatory guests vote on the edible works of art, winners in each category will receive prizes. And don't forget to get creative! The Best of Show wins $500 in cash.
Log on to www.fpconservatory.org to download a registration form, and get baking! If you don't want to enter the contest but still want to partake in some holiday fun, bring your little ones to the conservatory on the day after Thanksgiving (Nov. 25) for Gingerbread Friday. From 12 noon-4 p.m., kids can create a mini gingerbread house for $3.
