Collecting backpacks for homeless children

The Volunteers of America "Operation Backpack" campaign runs July 22 to Aug. 11. The non-profit organization collects backpacks each year for homeless children.

The backpacks help boost children's self-esteem and make them feel more like the other students in their class, according to the organization.

Backpacks and school supplies can be dropped off at any Columbus Metropolitan Library branch or at Volunteers of America Thrift Stores.
