Visitors from across Ohio and the Midwest will travel to Union County Saturday, Sept. 6 for the inaugural Union County Covered Bridge Festival.

The event is an opportunity for history buffs to take a step back in time by touring the county's seven historic bridges, six of which are covered structures.

In addition to Marysville, the county seat, activities are planned in the communities of Milford Center, North Lewisburg, Plain City and Unionville Center.

"We have had numerous calls already," said Christy Clark, director of the Union County Visitors & Convention Bureau. "We have had an influx of people coming into the chamber office and many phone calls. I anticipate a flurry of activity next week. I think we're going to be slammed."

Clark said the historic bridges are the county's No. 1 tourist attraction and interest has been widespread.

"We're getting calls from all over," she said. "We have had calls from Cleveland, Illinois, Indiana, all over the Midwest. There is a covered bridge association and some of our members are tied into that and they are promoting it within that circle and are spreading the word all around."
