The New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix and Family Day, slated for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28, will feature Disney singers Demi Lovato and Jordan Pruitt, family activities and members of the U.S.' gold-winning equestrian team.

The Jonas Brothers won't be around to draw a screaming mass of girls this year, but organizers of the New Albany Classic are betting two Disney artists and Olympic athletes will draw crowds.

The New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix and Family Day, slated for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28, will feature Disney singers Demi Lovato and Jordan Pruitt, family activities and members of the U.S.' gold-winning equestrian team.

One of the event's organizers, Karl Koon, said the noon concert will be a highlight of the event.

"Tween Brands is generously underwriting the concert," he said. "That'll be another exciting year at the classic."

Last year, the company brought the Jonas Brothers to the classic. Lovato is opening for the Jonas Brothers' current tour.

"These two performers (Lovato and Pruitt) are certainly equally well-known," Koon said. "It won't be quite the pandemonium from last year."

Other celebrities at the New Albany Classic will participate in the Grand Prix. Koon said members of the U.S. Olympic equestrian team that recently won a gold medal in China will be at the classic.

"We're coming off the Olympics, and we have three of the five members of the U.S. team competing," he said.

The "Hometown Heroes" tent also will draw local celebrities to the event, Koon said. Athletes from the Ohio State University will be at the tent, along with local TV news personalities.

"We never had current players (from OSU). We've never been able to get them because of the school schedule," he said.

The classic will feature Brutus the Buckeye, OSU cheerleaders, rides and children's activities.

Koon said the event's focus this year will be shifted a little more on activities for teens.

"We have a variety of activities for slightly older teen groups," he said. "We're doing things with Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Wii games. We have DJ Toad, who will do interactive things with kids. We think they'll like the interactive video stuff."

Tickets to the New Albany Classic are $15, but children 12 and younger are admitted for free. Tickets are not sold at the gate but may be purchased through Ticketmaster or at Easton Town Center, New Albany Realty or Equus Now.

The classic benefits the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence and has contributed almost $15-million to the organization. The coalition works to educate and improve the institution and individual response to family violence.

The classic is held at the Wexner property, 1 Whitebarn Drive.
