When I was a stay-at-home mom, I registered on one or two such sites to stay in touch with the outside world, but I really only dabbled.

Now that I am back to work I am signed up on all of them and have to say that it is absolutely exhausting. I may have to quit my new job just to keep up with my Facebook page!

At first it is a lot of fun to find that old friend from high school, or try to catch up with that former co-worker you haven't seen in 15 years. But after the first few reunions, it can become overwhelming.

First of all, how do you tell someone in a couple of paragraphs what you have been up to for the last decade? Can you recap your life in a few sentences? Does everyone you have ever known really need to know what you are doing at every moment of every day? Do they even want to know? Do you honestly want to see that picture of you from high school or junior high plastered on the web for all to see?

If you do not know what I am talking about your life is probably a little more peaceful than mine. But if you have kids, I'm sure they know what I'm talking about. I admit that I check my Facebook page regularly.

I love to know what my friends are up to. I even find it slightly addictive. It is a quick, easy and brief way to stay in touch with people. But I cannot help but wonder if I'm headed to a world where the only way I know what is happening with my daughter when she is grown, is on-line.

If she doesn't Twitter (another social networking site) how will I know if she is eating right and getting enough rest? Will I actually meet her boyfriends, or will I just check out their profiles on-line? At this rate, instead of planning her wedding with her, I will merely catch the footage on YouTube!
