RateMyTeacher.com: This is going on their permanent record!
One of my kids has been having difficulty with math. We've had tutors, talked test anxiety and worked directly with the teacher. But still, the grades aren't where we need them to be.
Like any parent, I put the onus on my child, saying that as parents, we've provided him with the tools he needs to succeed, as has the teacher. "No, Mom! It's the teacher's fault! I've gone in to see her and she just gets mad at me. No one is happy with her and my friends have even given her bad ratings on RateMyTeacher.com!" Huh?
But check it out. www.RateMyTeacher.com is a place where students and parents can go to give teachers a thumbs up or thumbs down rating. Simply enter your child's school name (be patient, they don't always come up on the first try) and up pops a list of teachers, the subjects they teach, when they were last rated, and their overall rating score on a scale from 1 to 5 (5 being the best).
There's even a Hall of Fame, which is a list of the highest-rated teachers and schools.
So the next time your child says, "None of my friends like this teacher," you can find out for yourself. It's like looking at their permanent record.
