Play the Alphabet Naming Game. One person starts by saying a name that starts with the letter A and then the next person has to say a name that starts with the letter B. This goes on until someone gets stumped and no names can be thought of. This will entertain younger kids and help them with their ABCs.

Play 20 Questions. Pick a category (such as animals) and have each person ask a yes or no question. Keep going until 20 questions are asked. Then each player gets to make a final guess.

Play I Spy. Use colors or items, it doesn't matter. Or switch back and forth to keep things interesting.

Watch a movie if you have a DVD player in the car. On a long plane flight, movies are normally shown. If you have an iPod, try renting one from iTunes and watching it in the palm of your hand.

Let the kids pick the music for car trips.

Bring word finds and crossword puzzles.

Bring hand-held video devices. They can entertain kids for hours.

A car trip is the perfect time to teach the kids how to read a map. Put them in charge and let them know which exits and landmarks to look for.

Have your kids keep a journal of the journey. Bring books for the kids to read. Don't forget your kids' favorite toys. Feel free to add your own ideas to the list. Remember, if the kids are happy, chances are you will be too!
