Inspiring news for and about Central Ohio parents!
If your family enjoys baseball and history, consider heading out to the really old ballgame to see the Ohio Village Muffins. The team plays its home opener April 8 at Ohio Village, part of the Ohio History Center, 800 E. 17th Ave., Columbus. The “base ball” team turns back the clock to 1860, following the rules, uniform conventions and genteel manners of that era—not to mention the two-word spelling of the sport.
A women's team, the Lady Diamonds, also evokes the 1860s though in a more limited capacity. They play three games, one each in July, August and September.

Frozen-treat fans (and who isn't) will be pleased to learn a Bexley favorite, Johnson's Real Ice Cream, just announced plans to open a Dublin location. The business expects to take over the recently shuttered Sisters Sweet Shop, 55 W. Bridge St., in May. Johnson's, which served its first scoop in 1950, was a runner-up in our 2016 Family Faves reader poll. Check them out at johnsonsrealicecream.com.
They're baa-aack! The ever-popular Blooms & Butterflies exhibit has returned to Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. The event, in its 24th year, includes daily butterfly releases and hundreds of the winged creatures flying freely in the Pacific Water Garden. Visit through Sept. 17.
Another exhibit, Columbus Blooms, opening in April will include more than 100,000 flowering spring bulbs. For more information, go to fpconservatory.org.
Searching for a caregiver is tough. The Ohio Child Care Resource & Referral Association wants parents to know they don't have to do it on their own. A new Child Care Solutions campaign aims to help families research the options.
OCCRRA, a nonprofit statewide organization, operates ohiochildcarefinder.org. Parents plug in some basic information about the type of care sought (including the age of the child, desired location and quality rating) and immediately get a list of matching options.
In Central Ohio, the service is linked to Action for Children, a nonprofit resource and referral agency. Check out our annual Child Care Directory, compiled in partnership with Action for Children.
