Family fun invades Downtown Columbus

A season full of family fun gets underway this weekend at Columbus Commons.

The Downtown Columbus park kicks off its summer programming lineup with Family Funday from 4-8 p.m. May 27. Admission and some activities are free, while a $5 wristband grants unlimited access to inflatables, the carousel, laser tag, mini golf and face painting.

In cooperation with Autism Speaks, the event will open an hour early for children with sensory issues.

A free screening of The Secret Life of Pets will take place at 8 p.m.

The weekly Commons for Kids series starts June 2. The events, which feature arts and crafts, inflatables and other activities, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays through Aug. 18 (except June 30).

Butler County will be at the June 2 Commons for Kids with a Plinko board and information about Ohio’s only Donut Trail, which stops at 10 family-owned businesses. More than 5,600 people have trekked the trail since it began last year. Future programs in the series will be posted at columbuscommons.org/happenings/commons-for-kids.

Two more Free Movie Nights will be held this season at the Commons: The Lego Batman Movie (July 21, after Popcorn Pops) and The Jungle Book (Sept. 2, in conjunction with Family Funday).
