Slides Stay Open for Movie Series

Zoombezi Bay was scheduled to kick off its annual summer movie lineup tonight with everyone’s favorite candymaker, as well as the chance to ride some of the park’s most popular waterslides after-hours.

But it appears that storms may interfere with those plans.

The water park has transformed its popular Dive-In Movies series into Zoombezi Bay Summer Nights, adding rides and entertainment in addition to the family-friendly flicks. In previous years, slides were closed during the movies.

Zoombezi Bay Summer Nights runs 6-11 p.m. Fridays through Aug. 4, weather-permitting. Rides that will operate include Big Boa Falls, Cyclone and Sound Surfer. Guests still can watch the movies from an inner tube in the wave pool. Movies start at dusk.

Other activities include music, visits from Columbus Zoo and Aquarium animals and character ambassadors, and samples and activities from Swedish Fish, the series sponsor.

The lineup includes:

July 7 – “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” July 14 – “Space Jam” July 21 – “Kung Fu Panda 3” July 28 – “We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story” Aug. 4 – “The Secret Life of Pets”

Regular admission rates apply, but guests who arrive after 5 p.m. and use the phrase “Swedish-ish fish” at the ticket booth can get in for $10, or $5 after 8 p.m.

As of 2 p.m., the zoo’s guest relations staff said the event had not been canceled, but Zoombezi Bay had closed temporarily due to severe weather.
