Twins lend a hand for Family Faves story

WHO: Chloe (left) and Emma Chinn

WHERE: Fantasy Cupcake in Canal Winchester

WHEN: Aug. 10, 2017

THE BACKSTORY: Toddlers are notorious for their mercurial nature, but we had a fantastic time photographing these 2½-year-old identical twins, who are the nieces of bakery owner Leah Dotson.

The girls, whose parents are Ornela and Zachary Chinn of Carroll, showed up in matching Fantasy Cupcake T-shirts and were as pleasant and cooperative as they are cute. Ornela, who also works at the bakery, said the girls have always dressed alike—at first by their parents' choice, but now by theirs. “They love that,” she said.

They visit their aunt at work several times a month. While there, they usually eat a cake pop or mini Chocolate Fantasy cupcake—and generally end up on the bakery's Facebook page, tagged #fantasycupcaketwins.

Dotson opened the business in June 2011. “I baked on the side as a hobby, grew up baking,” she said.

While working as a nanny, she often baked with her charges. After parents started hiring her to bake for their events, she figured she could make a business of it. Now, she turns out 400 to 1,000 cupcakes, plus 400 to 500 cake pops, each day in her 600-square-foot shop. All treats are scratch-made, and leftovers are donated at the end of each day if they don't sell out. “We just believe in having the best, top-quality ingredients,” Dotson said.

Her customers have taken notice, as did our readers, who voted the business Favorite Bakery in this year's Family Faves.
