Bob Evans opens doors for annual event

Visitors to the Bob Evans Farm Festival near Rio Grande will find several new additions this year, including a 4K, rides and a buffet.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 13-15 at Bob Evans Farm, 791 Farmview Road, Bidwell. Admission is $5 for adults, free for ages 5 and younger.

The 47th annual festival offers a variety of family entertainment, both modern and old-fashioned. Visit with animals from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, listen to bands, watch chainsaw carvers and lumberjacks test their skills, or check out herding demonstrations by Alan Miller’s Border Collies.

Agricultural-themed activities include cow milking, pig races and hayrides, plus contests including pie eating, corn shelling, cow-chip tossing and hay-bale throwing.

The Kids Farmyard Fun area offers a hay-bale maze, corn pile, face painting, a kiddie train, games and crafts.

More than 100 artists and crafters will set up shop at the festival.

New this year:

The Family & Heroes 4K Run/Walk steps off at 8 a.m. Oct. 14 and travels through Rio Grande. Proceeds benefit the USO of Central and Southern Ohio. Participants receive a ticket to the festival. To register ($24), go to runsignup.com/race/oh/riogrande/bobevansfriendsandheroes4krunwalk.  Amusement rides will be offered for a variety of age ranges. Wristbands are $10 adults, $5 ages 11 and younger.  A buffet ($12 adults, $6 ages 12 and younger) will offer signature dishes from Bob Evans’ restaurant menu. Food vendors still will be on-site with cider, kettle corn, bean soup and other items.

Organizers expect the event to draw almost 30,000 visitors from 18 states.
