Columbus libraries celebrate the civil rights leader

Families can honor the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. with a variety of celebrations at two branches of the Columbus Metropolitan Library.

The programs, on tap at the Martin Luther King Jr. and Shepard branches, will include a mix of music, crafts and storytelling.

Events at the MLK branch, 1600 E. Long St., Columbus:

Jan. 15 – Say Hooray for MLK Storytime, a story hour focused on the life and words of King, at 10:30 a.m. Ages 2-6. Jan. 20 – Happy Birthday, Martin, a birthday party featuring music by Doctah X, at 2 p.m. All ages.

Events at Shepard, 850 N. Nelson Road, Columbus:

Jan. 13 – Happy Birthday, Martin, a program celebrating King’s legacy with stories, crafts and other literacy-based activities, at 11a.m. All ages. Jan. 13 – Urban Strings Quarter Notes, a youth string ensemble performs music by African-American composers, at 1 p.m. All ages.
