Meet Bertie and watch the Master Model Builder contest May 5-6

If Legos are your thing (or your kid’s), you can watch more than 70 adults duke it out this weekend to become the Master Model Builder for Legoland Discovery Center Columbus.

The Brick Factor competition will see contestants compete for the Master Model Builder job at the Easton attraction. (And yes, it is a real, paid position.) Round 1 will take place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 5, with the top 10 competitors advancing to Round 2, set for 1-2:30 p.m. May 6. The 10 children who make up the Creative Crew (chosen April 13 from more than 100 applicants) will help the finalists with their builds. The Master Model Builder will be announced at 2:30 p.m., when the winner will be showered with Legos.

The event, near the grand staircase in the Easton Station Building, is free and open to the public. Attendees can meet Bertie, the Legoland Discovery Center mascot, and Easton man, the Easton Town Center mascot; the latter will appear only on Saturday.

Legoland Discovery Center Columbus also will make a second highly anticipated announcement Sunday: a grand opening date. The attraction is expected to open this fall, offering 10 play areas, two interactive rides, Master Model Builder classes, a vehicle test track, 4-D cinema, party room, café and a Miniland Ohio. Miniland, a signature area found in all Legolands, features scaled-down versions of local and/or national icons. Miniland Ohio will feature landmarks from Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Legoland Discovery Center Columbus is a $10 million, two-story, 36,000-square-foot play center geared for ages 3-10. It takes over the space formerly occupied by KDB and GameWorks and will be owned and operated by Merlin Entertainments. The attraction is among 12 open or in development in North America and 22 worldwide.
