Central Ohio parks offer free educational events.

You may have overlooked planning for National Moth Week, set for July 21-29, but fortunately the naturalists at Metro Parks did not.

They are hosting a free Moth Mania program at 9:30 p.m. July 21 at the Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park nature center, 1415 Darby Creek Drive, Galloway. The park will set light traps to lure the nocturnal creatures for visitors to observe. (The program will be repeated at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at the park’s Cedar Ridge area, 1775 Darby Creek Drive.)

Battelle Darby Creek visitors also can observe National Moth Week by viewing a display of moth specimens in the nature center from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 21-29.

Lake Hope State Park in McArthur also is planning a free moth-themed event. Park staff members will offer “Moth Hours” by setting light traps around the nature center, 27331 State Route 278, beginning at 10 p.m. July 21. For more information, call 740-596-3030.
