Science:Glue contains the polymer polyvinyl acetate. Polymers are large molecules made up of individual pieces, called monomers, joined together in a pattern. Borax, when added to water, makes a chemical that helps link the long polymer chains together. This cross-linking makes the polymers form a type of plastic that behaves sometimes as a liquid (it flows), and sometimes as a solid (it can snap apart). Substances like COSI Flubber are called non-Newtonian fluids. Story tools |
