Ingredients:

  • Liquid Laundry Borax
  • Glue
  • Water
  • Food coloring

Instructions:

  1. Mix 2 tbsp of Borax in 2 cups of water and set aside.
  2. Stir 1 cup of glue and 2 drops of food coloring into 1 cup of water.
  3. Add 2 tsp of the Borax solution to the glue mixture and stir.
  4. Gather all the stretchy strands and squeeze into a ball to make COSI Flubber!

Science:

Glue contains the polymer polyvinyl acetate. Polymers are large molecules made up of individual pieces, called monomers, joined together in a pattern. Borax, when added to water, makes a chemical that helps link the long polymer chains together. This cross-linking makes the polymers form a type of plastic that behaves sometimes as a liquid (it flows), and sometimes as a solid (it can snap apart). Substances like COSI Flubber are called non-Newtonian fluids.
