When you travel near the speed of light to other areas of the galaxy and come back to Earth, be prepared.  Strange things happen to the passage of time!

Drag Parachute Activity Drag: Parachute from the Stratosphere

Determine whether the skydiver successfully lands jumping from 100,000 feet in the air.  Be sure to deploy the parachutes at the right time!

Push Activity Push:  Water Ski Over the Sharks

Choose the best acceleration and ramp angle to safely land the water skier over the sharks and on the other side or else the sharks are happy.

Stop Activity Stop: Practice Stopping at Vehicle Intersections

    Blubber Glove

    Supplies needed:
    • 2 Quart size Ziploc bags
    • 2 cups of Shortening/Crisco
    • 1 Rubber band
    • 1 container that fits your hand
    • Water and Ice

    1. Fill the container with water and ice.
    2. Fill a Ziploc bag about halfway full with shortening.
    3. Turn the second Ziploc bag inside-out and place it into the bag with the shortening.
    4. Zip both bags together so that you will be able to place you hand inside without touching the shortening.
    5. Place your hand in the bag and spread the shortening around your hand.
    6. To keep the Blubber Glove on your hand, secure it with a rubber band around your wrist.
    7. Take turns placing your hand and your Blubber Glove hand in the icy water.
    Talk about:
    Which hand stays warmer? Why?


    Cold Feet

    • A polar bears paw is the size of a dinner plate! Compare your paw (hand) to a dinner plate at your house to see the difference.
    • Did you know polar bears walk about 5,500 miles a year? Get started on your polar trek and use a pedometer to calculate how many miles you and your family walk a year.
