Manic mommy
Get me off this treadmill!

There's no denying that a baby changes everything. And since there are so many things that change,
I am just going to focus on what is important: our bodies, of course.
For all you young moms out there - the ones who bounce back two hours after giving birth and are wearing your pre-pregnancy jeans the next day - this is not for you. You are the women I see pushing your newborn in a stroller looking more like Paris Hilton than someone who just dropped a kid. Perhaps you stopped at the hospital and had your baby on the way to your spa appointment. No, this is for the more experienced moms who face baby-bearing damage and aging all at once. The dreaded double whammy! I try to get myself back in shape, but just as I get one part of my body looking normal, another falls, deflates or sags. I wake up each morning and take inventory to see what happened overnight. Sometimes I feel like I'm on a treadmill and I have to run as fast as I can just to keep up. I don't ever gain any ground. All of this might seem depressing, but the good news here is that my priorities are different now. I have learned how to be comfortable in my own skin, and find self-worth in more than just the way I look. I have found happiness in my family and so many other areas of my life. I have learned to be content. I guess this must be divine intervention to help me deal with the effects of having a baby and getting older. Plus, my eyesight is getting so bad that I can no longer see those fine lines and wrinkles, and just how low my backside continues to fall. I could get contacts, but why ruin a good thing? Stacy McKay Hosts "Mornings with Stacy McKay" on 104.9 FM The River. You can hear her each weekday morning from 5-9 a.m. Stacy and her family live in Hilliard. Story tools |
