Dog licenses will go on sale Friday, Dec. 1 It is very important that a dog license is purchased before Jan. 31, 2018, deadline to avoid any penalty. Section 955.05 of the Ohio Revised Code states that all late filers will be subject to a penalty for each license not purchased or renewed by the January 31st deadline, which is the last day to purchase a tag without penalty.

There are no exception to this rule.

Any dog that is three months of age and you have owned for thirty days are required to have a license. Dog owners who have moved into Belmont County have thirty days to acquire a tag. All dogs are required by law to be licensed in the State of Ohio.

There are three types of dog licenses: a one year licenses ($12), a three year license ($36), and a permanent license ($120). Kennel fees, (five (5) or more dogs) are $60.00. In order to purchase kennel license you will need to provide proof (vender license) that you are a breeder, if you cannot provide proof you will need to purchase a regular tag for each dog. ORC 955.02 as used in this chapter. A "dog kennel" or "kennel" means an establishment that keeps, houses, and maintains adult dogs, as defined in section 956.01 of revised code, for the purpose of breeding the dogs for a fee or other consideration received through a sale, exchange or lease and that is not a high volume breeder licensed under Chapter 956.

Due to the recent changes the Belmont County Auditor, Belmont County Commissioners, and the Belmont County Animal Shelter have decided to eliminate all other agents located throughout the county. New or Renewal license can be purchased in person at the Auditor’s office, (room 14) located in the courthouse, the Belmont County Animal Shelter, through the mail or online at www.belmontcountyohio.org/auditor.htm click on dog license online and enter the account number and password from the application and apply. There is a service charge for all online dog licenses purchased. This service is handled by an outside agency and we will not have access to any credit card information. Your tag will be mailed once we receive the information and payment. This process may take up to two weeks.

All dog owners who purchased a dog license during 2017 will receive a renewal application in the mail. If you do not receive an application, call the office at 740-699-2131 or animal shelter at 740-695-1708.
