From October through April, the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce recognizes area high school students as Students of the Month. Those honored thus far are:
Alliance — Stefan Thalacker, the son of Juanita Toussant and Jerry Thalacker, is a junior at Alliance High School. Stefan is treasurer of the Class of 2019, a member of Foreign Language Club, band, Drama Club, orchestra, Key Club, Student Senate, Choralaires, the cross country team and has been involved in musicals. He also participates in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and volunteers with the Salvation Army’s toy distribution.
Marlington — Tyler Nidy, the son of Melinda and Keith Nidy, is a junior at Marlington High School. Tyler is a member of the marching band, Character Counts, Teens Against Cancer and Link Crew. He also shows dogs and likes to help others in need.
Sebring — Keyarra Nelson, the daughter of Lori Fox and Anthony Nelson, is a junior at Sebring McKinley Jr./Sr. High School. She is a member of Ecology Club, SADD and Language Club and plays trombone in the marching band. She is a member of the youth staff for PANDA Leadership Camp and does volunteer work in the Trumbull County area.
West Branch — Kylie Dean, the daughter of Scott and Tonya Dean, is a junior at West Branch High School. She is a member of Future Teachers of America, SADD, Academic Challenge, Young and Alive, concert choir, Women’s Choir, concert band, pep band, marching band, is a drum major, keeps stats for the soccer and track teams, is involved in theater, participated in Solo and Ensemble, and is a student mentor. She is involved with the Salem Community Theatre and the Baldwin Wallace University Leader in Training program.
Alliance — Emily Swonger, the daughter of Angie Swonger and Robert Swonger, is a junior at Alliance High School. She is a member of Student Senate, the Jetsetters, Choralaires, Foreign Language Club, the track and soccer teams, and school’s orchestra, for which she has been a member of the orchestra pit for musicals. She has performed at nursing homes with the Choralaires, worked at the Salvation Army food distribution and was a race volunteer for the Salvation Army.
Marlington — Brendyn Greiner, the son of Steve Greiner and Katie Greiner, is a junior at Marlington High School. He is involved in the CCP program at Marlington and has also been involved with Character Counts and Teens Against Cancer. He works at Mount Union, doing painting throughout the campus, and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the Humane Society.
Sebring — Joe Clark, the son of Brian Clark and Melanie Clark, is a junior at Sebring McKinley Jr./Sr. High School. He is a member of the basketball, golf and cross country teams. He serves in his church, St. John the Baptist in Campbell. He has served at community dinners, has donated blood to the Red Cross, participated in the Great American Cleanup and rang bells for the Salvation Army.
West Branch — Cole Bates, the son of Brian and Angela Bates, is a junior at West Branch High School. He is a member of Young and Alive, has been involved in theater productions, is a member of the football, golf and baseball teams. He is involved as a mentor, helps with the Little Warriors programs and works with younger choir students.
Alliance — Seandalin Jones, the daughter of Shawn Jones and Jennifer Jones and the late Melanie Jones, is a junior at Alliance High School. She is a member of the track and field, basketball and softball teams, the cosmetology program and is a guidance office aide. She is also employed at KFC.
Marlington — Alyssa Skelding, the daughter of Stacy and Tom Skelding, is a junior at Marlington High School. She is involved in Character Counts and Teens Against Cancer. She is a varsity cheerleader and competition cheerleader for the Dukes. She is also involved in the CCP program. Alyssa works at Tannenhauf Golf Club and is a member of the Marlboro Christian Church youth group.
Sebring — Gabby Lozoya, the daughter of Chasidy Burchfield, is a junior at Sebring McKinley Jr/Sr High School. She is class president, a member of Spirit Crew, Ecology Club, SADD, Student Senate and the track & field team. She is also involved with the Salvation Army, Secret Santa, St. Baldricks, B.L. Extension and COSI.
West Branch — Ali Schroeder, the daughter of Barry and Trisha Schroder, is a junior at West Branch High School. She is involved with SADD, Student Council, yearbook, soccer and Environmental Club. She also works in the concession stands during athletic events and supports all of the school's athletic teams.
Alliance —William Kinser, the son of Jennifer and Tyler Kinser, is a junior at Alliance High School. He is involved in band, Key Club, Broadcast Arts, Jazz Band, Choralaires, high school musicals. He also takes part in Carnation City Players, Christ United Methodist youth group, choir and handbells, Habitat for Humanity and a lawn mowing service.
Marlington — Morgan Peterson, the daughter of Tina and Mike Peterson, is a junior at Marlington High School. She participates in Character Counts and Teens Against Cancer and serves on the board of both organizations. She is also involved in Spanish Honors Society and Link Crew and is a buddy for special needs students. Morgan is employed at Grinders in Alliance, is a member of the Teen Court, participates in food drives and helps at the Humane Society.
Sebring — Catherine Jarvis, the daughter of Laura and Dennis Jarvis, is a junior at Sebring McKinley High School. She is involved in band, Academic Challenge, Ecology Club, SADD and Language Club. She has participated in community dinners and the Great American Cleanup.
West Branch — Thomas Caserta, the son of James and Daniele Caserta, is a junior at West Branch High School. He is involved in football, wrestling, and baseball, and serves as a school mentor.
