Fred Jay Young, 77, of Marysville and formerly of Newcomerstown, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, June 30, 2018 at his residence.
He was born Oct.18, 1940 in Fredericktown, Ohio, the youngest of eight children. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, (1958-1964), stationed on the U.S.S. Forrestal CVA-59 at Portsmouth, Virginia. Fred retired as a Chrysler employee working at the Twinsburg Stamping Plant after 31 years of service and was a member in good standing with the Local UAW. Fred attended Christ United Methodist Church in Newcomerstown and was an active Mason of Kent Chapter 192 RAM, Kent, Ohio. Fred loved to fish, NASCAR, and he was a late model dirt track enthusiast. In his younger years he was an avid bicyclist, riding for many miles at any given time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe J. and Marie (Burkholder) Young; three brothers, Carl, Dave and Dick; two sisters, Eleanor and Margaret.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie (David) Fink of Plain City and Dana LeMerise of Ravenna; five grandchildren, Bradley, Michael, Heidi, Amanda and Curtis; three great-grandchildren: and two sisters, Martha and Marilyn.
Funeral services were Monday, July 9, at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., Marysville. Full military honors were conducted by the Union County Honor Guard.
