New family-friendly play opens tonight

The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, a very family-friendly new play, opens tonight at the Worthington Community Theatre. Based on an L. Frank Baum book, Santa Clausis as much of a whimsical fairy tale romp as is Baum's famousThe Wizard of Oz.

TheSanta Clausshow tells the origin story of Saint Nick himself. Necile the wood nymph narrates the story of how Santa grew up and how he became the jolly man known around the world. Along with Jack Frost and some other kooky characters, Santa sets off on a journey to bring laughter to children around the world. They'll have to watch out for the monstrous Awgwas, who want nothing more than to frighten human children!

This show is WCT's first full partnership with the McConnell Arts Center (MAC). WCT's mission as a family-friendly theatre is providing a great opportunity to bring family-oriented play to downtown Worthington within walking distance for hundreds of households.

Showtimes are Dec. 12 (3 p.m.), Dec. 13 (3 and 7:30 p.m.), and Dec. 14 (3 and 7:30 p.m.). All performances are at the McConnell Arts Center (777 Evening St.) in Worthington. Tickets are available atwww.mcconnellarts.org, by calling 614-431-0329, or at the door.
