Starts today in Wilmington, Ohio
Did you know that Wilmington, Ohio's claim to fame is as the birthplace of the Banana Split? Created in 1907 by Wilmington's own Ernest Hazard, the claim is challenged by Latrobe, PA, but Wilmington refuses to back down. They will not be daunted by a controversy that crosses state lines!
Not only is Wilmington the banana split's birthplace, but there is an annual celebration - the Banana Split Festival. The venue for the event is the J.W. Denver Williams Park, in the heart of Wilmington, where thousands will be on hand to make-their-own banana split, shop for crafts and commercial items, eat a wide selection of foods, peruse the many collectible cars on display at the classic cruise-in and car show, play street carnival games, enjoy the live entertainment, and much more, all to the theme of the fun '50s and '60s.
The festival begins today, Friday, June 12 at 4 p.m. and goes until 10 p.m., and resumes tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, from 12 noon until 10 pm. Admission is free.
