at the North YMCA

Mark your calendars for this weekend when another two, excellent heritage festivals are celebrated in central Ohio: The New American Festival, which celebrates the Ethiopian New Year but also welcomes all new Americans from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America, and the Macedonian Festival, where you can enjoy the music, dancing and food of Macedonia.

The New American Festival, now in its 15th year, takes place Saturday, Sept. 12, at the North YMCA, 1640 Sandalwood Place, Columbus 43229, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. You'll be able to enjoy the food, music and entertainment of many different cultures, including the Ethiopian, Somali, Iraqi, Sudanese and Ghanaian communities. And it's free to attend!

The Macedonian Festival takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at St. Mary Macedonian Orthodox Church, 400 S. Waggoner Road, Reynoldsburg 43068. The hours are 4 p.m.-12 midnight Friday, 12 noon-12 midnight Saturday and 12 noon-6 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are free, and there are also games and a play area for kids!
