Holiday gamers' shopping guide 2009!

It's that time of year again: time for all of our little boys and girls to start hinting at what they want us to start dropping paychecks worth of money on as gifts under the tree.
I'm going to touch on some games that are good ideas for the holiday season and try to cover a multitude of genres so everyone can find something they like.

2k Games teams up with Nickelodeon:

Releasing from 2k Games are a series of titles that are aimed for early childhood gamers with learning at their core. For the Wii and the PS2, check out Ni Hao, Kai-lan: Super Game Day and Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Crystal Kingdom. For DS, check out The Backyardigans, Dora Puppy and Ni Hao, Kai Lan: New Years Celebration.

All of the games are geared for preschool age children and promote teamwork and problem solving using interactive gameplay and popular television characters. The Wii games retail for $40, PS2 for $20 and DS games for $30. Pretty reasonable prices!

Interactive music titles:

This year Activision is at it again with their newest releases, DJ Hero and Band Hero. In DJ Hero you take on the role of an up-and-coming DJ and using Activision's turntable controller, mix popular rap and hip-hop tracks and become the greatest DJ ever. With cameo appearances by DJ Jazzy Jeff, Enimen and Jay-Z, this title is sure to hit it big in the music genre.

Also from Activision is Band Hero which is similar to the Guitar Hero World Tour series, but the music is more of a pop-mix of songs instead of the usual rock and metal heavy titles that come out from Activision. Join up with your friends and play and sing along to songs by Taylor Swift, the Jackson 5, The Village People and many, many more.

Also, be sure to check out Rock Band: The Beatles from Harmonix. A favorite of mine!

A Christmas Carol:

I was sent this game to check out for the DS and I'm really impressed. The game plays out interactive story style where you click on things around the screen to help you solve story challenges and progress farther through the game. Also, the game has a full copy of the novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Pretty impressive!

A classic returns!

Coming this November from Nintendo is Super Mario Bros. Wii, a game well overdue. The new game is now four-player co-op where you can either help out your fellow players or toss them into the oncoming enemies in classic Mario humor. New boards, new power-ups and hours of fun make this a definite pick-up!

The hottest toy is now a game:

For over a year now, the hottest toy for little boys has been Bakugan. Bakugan is pretty much like a game of transforming with numbers on them for calculating who wins. With its worldwide success, it only makes sense that it finally made it into the digital age. Bakugan the Video Game has loads of unlockables, collectability and online play and follows a story line succinct with the TV show. All in all, it's a heck of a title!

Good luck during the shopping season and if you have any titles you want to know about, feel free to leave a comment in the Facebook comment box at the bottom of the screen and I'll give you the 411! Happy Holidays!
