To avoid kitchen chaos on Thanksgiving Day, make some of your dishes ahead of time. Some appetizers, salads and deserts can be made up to two days in advance. Add the final ingredients or toss in the dressing right before it hits the table.
Don't shoulder all the food responsibilities on Turkey Day. Make dinner a potluck and assign foods to everyone coming to dinner. Hand out the vegetable, potato and desert responsibilities so you can focus on the big bird and hosting.
If Great Grandma's fancy pie crust take too long to make, fake it. Not every last bit of the Thanksgiving meal needs to be homemade. Buy the pie crust, cranberries, rolls and other items and make the rest from scratch. Just throw away the box before Mom comes over.
