Meet Nori Duffee
What is the most played song on your iPod right now? I'll be the first to admit that I have the strangest taste in music. I get goosebumps when I listen to "Just Like Heaven" by the Cure, which is a great song. My top 25 most played songs include artists like Britney Spears, the Beatles, Kings of Leon, the Bee Gees and then Jay-Z. Big spectrum there!
Who is your favorite TV/movie parent? Claire (Julie Bowen) from "Modern Family." I especially love watching Claire deal with her two very different teenage daughters. It's giving me a scary preview of what my life will be like in another 10 years….
Which super-hero power would you like to have? I'd love to be able to freeze and fast-forward time! I'd freeze those magical moments where everyone is so happy and amazing and being a parent is the most awesome and rewarding thing in the world…Then I'd like to fast forward through when my girls are throwing themselves on the floor of Kroger because I was buying red apples instead of green.
Favorite thing to do for family fun in Central Ohio: In the winter, we spend a lot of time at COSI. We also love to walk to the Jeffrey Mansion in Bexley and pack a picnic when the weather is nice. On rainy days my kids love going to places like Kingdom of Bounce.
Favorite restaurant to take the kids: When we take the kids out, it is almost always for pizza because it is so fast. Hungry kids = crabby kids! We love Donatos and Rubino's in Bexley. Afterwards we almost always go to Johnson's for ice cream.
Favorite movie that you went to see with the kids: I'll tell you the least favorite movie: "Tangled!" My girls were terrified of that movie! Fast forward almost a year, and my younger daughter insists on being Rapunzel for this past Halloween. Complete with an amazing wig.
Best advice you ever received as a parent: To try and remember to put yourself in their shoes. Not being able to find your favorite pink Hello Kitty socks may seem really trivial to an adult, but to a small child, it's important.
What have you learned as a parent that you wish someone had told you before had that first kid? That it really does go by in a flash. Everyone did tell me that, but you don't know how true it really is until you're experiencing it yourself. It feels like yesterday I had two babies under 15 months in my house with seemingly endless bottles and burp cloths and diapers…. and then today they are big girls with their own thoughts, opinions and personalities.
What's something your parents did that you thought was nuts when you were a kid and now you understand? My mom was also a stay-at-home mom and every night she insisted on a nice family dinner, with no distractions. My brother and I hated that we couldn't watch TV during dinner and instead had to talk about our day at school and our friends with mom and dad. Then overnight I became a mother and see why that hour at the dinner table and staying in tune with your children's lives every day is so important.
