Local sweet tooth mainstay, Johnson's Ice Cream, opened a new party room. Its windows offer views of the Bexley ice cream maker's production facility, located at 2728 E. Main St. "This is a family business and I'm the fourth generation," said vice president Matt Wilcoxon. "Because of that we wanted to offer fun, clean entertainment for the whole family. We really value family here." Customers can rent the space for sundae bar parties, and can add on fun kid-friendly extras, like a make-and-name your own ice cream experience. In addition to the new party room, Johnson's is hosting monthly gatherings all summer to celebrate its 65th anniversary. Save the date for the first one June 25 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Taking the kids out to the ball game just got easier! The Neil Avenue entrance to the Columbus Clippers' Huntington Park has been altered to free up some open space for a children's play area. It will feature games and sectioned-off space to run around - perfect for a 7th inning (or any inning) stretch! And don't forget to sign the kids up for MVP Kids Club, too, at clippersbaseball.com. Kids under 12 get free admission to a Kids Club section and a chance to meet the players at Wednesday night home games.
Decor store Vintage Restyled (15 W. Main St. in New Albany) has announced a new summer lineup of Pinterest parties for kids. Held twice a month on Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, the party is a drop-off style class where kids age 5 and older make a trendy craft found on the popular social media site. The class costs $20 to $30 per student (depending on the craft). Reserve a spot via email: email@example.com. Make a Father's Day gift on June 19 or a patriotic painting at the June 26 class.
Finally, schedule time to head into the movie theater a little before showtime to see the Gateway Film Center's new hallway gallery space. Through June, it's home to artist Adam Brouillette's whimsical, imaginative cartoon interpretations of iconic scenes from movies such as Star Trek, Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Gateway is located at 1550 N. High St., just south of the OSU campus.
So…could June be any more fun?
