We are privileged and pleased to share the results of our 2015 Teachers of the Year contest, brought to you by KEMBA Financial Credit Union. Special thanks also to Sylvan Learning, with centers in Lewis Center and Grove City, who was our premier prize sponsor, as well as United Art & Education, our supporting prize sponsor.

Here's how we conducted the contest:

In January, we contacted principals, superintendents and public information officers for schools in central Ohio. We let them know about the contest and how to submit nominations.

From Feb. 1 to March 15, 2015 we accepted online nominations.

Columbus Parent staff members then reviewed the applications received (more than 50 total) and selected five finalists each in the grade school (K-5), middle school (Grades 6-8) and high school (Grades 9-12) categories.

On March 25, the finalists were announced. Then, from March 25 to May 3, online voting took place. More than 5,900 votes were received.

During the month of May, Columbus Parent editor Jane Hawes and representatives from KEMBA Financial Credit Union and Sylvan Learning visited the winners at their schools for the award ceremonies. Their prize packages included:

• a $250 gift card from KEMBA Financial Credit Union

• $400 in assorted gift cards from Sylvan Learning

• a $250 gift card from United Art & Education
