German Village finally has sushi. Jonys Sushi is now open at 195 Thurman Ave. next door to its sister restaurant, South Village Grille. The carryout-only spot features a variety of sushi rolls, sashimi, poke bowls and more.

Matt and Tony’s Wood Fired Kitchen, a new restaurant venture from the owners of Pat and Gracie’s, is set to debut Monday, Sept. 16, at 525 Short St., once home to Columbus Brewing Co. and CBC Restaurant. The American-style restaurant, named after co-owners Matt Rootes and Tony Wildman, will be open daily for lunch and dinner. The menu will feature wood-grilled steaks, prime rib and seafood as well as some Pat and Gracie’s items like the chimichurri burger and salmon BLT.

According to a report by Columbus Business First, the former Actual Brewing Co. taproom in Clintonville will be replaced by an upscale brewpub called SIP Local featuring craft beer from Somewhere in Particular Brewing. The new brewpub at 2808 N. High St. is located in the same shopping center as Lucky’s Market. Look for it to open next month.

A new location of The Old Bag of Nails Pub has opened in the spacious restaurant space at 4416 N. High St. in Clintonville. The local chain owned by Mike Purdum replaces Westies Gastropub, which closed last fall.

In case you missed it—because we did—a weekday breakfast and lunch spot called Gypsy on the Mile quietly opened this summer, replacing Si Senor Peruvian Sandwiches & More at 200 S. Civic Center Dr. across from the Scioto Mile. The menu features salads, wraps, sandwiches, pierogis, chicken paprikash and more.

Ben Kanavel was recently named executive chef at Clintonville's The Crest Gastropub, a farm-to-table restaurant and bar that first opened in 2013. Kanavel was most recently the opening head chef at Comune. The Crest is part of A&R Creative Group, which also owns Alchemy, Trism, Ethyl & Tank and The Market Italian Village.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams was recently recognized for something other than its ice creams. This month, the nonprofit organization B Lab named Jeni’s, which has been a certified B Corporation since 2013, one of its 2019 Best for the World honorees in the Community category. (Certified B Corporations are social enterprises that meet B Lab’s requirements for “social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.”) The Best for the World list recognizes for-profit businesses that stand out for their positive impact on the environment, the community and its employees. Beer of the Month: Wolf’s Ridge Brewing Oktoberfest

Style: Märzen Lager

ABV: 5.4%

The arrival of Oktoberfest beers marks the turn toward cooler weather, as traditional Bavarian lagers, brewed in March (März in German) and cellared through the summer, are ready for imbibing. Wolf’s Ridge has excelled at its offering, which is available on taps and in six-packs. The balanced lager is crisp and lightly sweet, with flavors leaning toward bread, nuts and caramel. The hops impart a touch of spice, and the beer finishes clean and slightly dry. —Nicholas Dekker
