The small-batch coffee roaster Florin Coffee unveils its new North Linden coffee shop next week. Florin Café officially opens its doors at 874 Oakland Park Ave. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 7 a.m. You can read about Florin Coffee and its founders, Hans and Joelle Hochstedler, in the January issue of Columbus Monthly.
Just Love Coffee Café opened last week near Downtown’s Westin Columbus hotel. The Tennessee-based roaster and coffeehouse chain serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at 330 S. High St., across from the Franklin County Courthouse. The café specializes in waffles and other menu items, such as omelets and cinnamon rolls, cooked on a waffle iron. The café’s hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sundays.
Amid reports that Lucky’s Market will close the majority of its stores around the country, the Clintonville store (2770 N. High St.) sought to reassure customers in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “There has been some recent news circulating about Lucky’s stores closing,” the post states. “We want to assure you that your store in Columbus will remain open, and we look forward to serving you, our loyal customers.” The Kroger Co., an investor in Lucky’s Market since 2016, recently decided to divest its interest in the Colorado-based natural foods retailer.
The plant-based caterer Can’t Believe It’s Vegan is holding a pair of guest pop-ups at Hills Market Downtown (95 N. Grant Ave.). You can find CBIV at the market from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, and Monday, Jan. 27.
Longtime Columbus pizzeria chain Massey’s Pizza has set an opening date for its latest location. The pizzeria’s 10th Central Ohio shop is set to open on Monday, Feb. 3, at 219 S. Sandusky St. in Delaware.
Wolf’s Ridge Brewing (215 N. Fourth St.) is making waves. On the dining side, the restaurant has completely revamped its dinner menu. Large entrées, such as the tomahawk pork chop, have been replaced by shareable small plates. Reduced prices per dish reflect the smaller portion sizes. You can view the new menu here. Meanwhile, the brewery just started releasing its first canned beers out into the market.
The café and bakery Kolache Republic announced on social media today that its last day of business will be Saturday, Feb. 8. Kolaches are slightly sweet Czech pastries, baked with a variety of cheese, fruit, nut and meat toppings. After recognizing a kolache void in Columbus, owners Rick Jardiolin, Dusty Kotchou and Doug Sauer opened the city’s first kolache bakery at 730 S. High St. in 2013. Read the announcement on Facebook.
This week, the Dallas-Fort Worth-based chain Cantina Laredo closed its Polaris restaurant (8791 Lyra Drive) after more than 10 years in operation.

Awards & Accolades
Last week, Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea took home a coveted 2020 Good Food Award for its Ethiopian Kossa Kebena coffee. The Good Food Awards, held annually in San Francisco, recognize delicious food products that embrace environmental and social responsibility. The Columbus roaster was Central Ohio’s sole honoree in any category and was the only Ohio roaster among 27 coffee finalists. Ethiopian Kossa Kebena also took home the award in 2017 and was a finalist last year. Customers can find the award-winning roast at Crimson Cup shops in Clintonville (4541 N. High St.) and Upper Arlington (2468 Northwest Blvd.).
