Chef BJ Lieberman, the interim executive chef at Freedom a la Cart, and his wife, Bronwyn, announced this week on social media that they’ve signed a lease to open their own restaurant, called Chapman’s Eat Market,in German Village. Chef Lieberman is a newcomer to Columbus, having moved here from Washington D.C., where he ran two Michelin-starred restaurants, Rose’s Luxury and Little Pearl. Sub shop Frank & Carl’s is one of the few restaurants to debut locally during the coronavirus pandemic. The sandwich shop, owned by brothers Max and Mitch Stafford, is now open for takeout and delivery at 6558 Longshore St. in Dublin’s Bridge Park. Call 614-389-2851 to place an order or go online at

The Bottle Shop Bar & Market (237 King Ave.) has launched a new wine club. A curated selection of wines are available for delivery at The shop’s selection ranges from packs of everyday table wines to 12-packs of high-end wines, with an emphasis on natural wines. Bottle Shop gift cards are also available for use when the bar reopens to the public.

Perrie Wilkof’s Dough Mama (3335 N. High St.) has reopened as a takeout bakery after a brief hiatus. Orders can be placed online at Monday through Saturday for Sunday-only pickup at the Clintonville bakery. You can also order by calling 614-268-3662.


Pop-up tiki bar 614Tiki returns this Saturday, April 18, to Little Rock Bar (944 N. Fourth St.) in Italian Village, where it will host a 614Tiki Drive-Thru. Food truck Aloha Aina will be on hand with Hawaiian fare; limit two cocktails per meal. Northstar Café’s annual Earth Day celebration is a bit different this year. On Wednesday, April 22, the restaurant will serve its popular veggie burgers at their regular price with 100 percent of proceeds from Earth Day burger sales being donated to its employee relief fund. Earth Day preorders for veggie burgers and carryout cocktails are being accepted now via the Northstar app or the restaurant’s website.

Eat Up! Columbus, Freedom a la Cart’s annual fundraising event, has switched to a virtual format in response to Ohio’s stay-at-home order. The newly dubbed Eat In! Columbus takes place Saturday, April 25, from 6 to 7 p.m. Freedom a la Cart is a local nonprofit organization that works to empower and employ survivors of human trafficking. Cancellations & Temporary Closures

The annual Whitehall Food Truck & Fun Fest has been canceled for 2020 because of the COVID-19 outbreak. The festival was scheduled for July 25. Meanwhile, the City of Whitehall and its partners are offering free boxed meals to those in need from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The new program is possible through a partnership between World Central Kitchen, Scotty’s Cafe, the City of Whitehall, Faith Lutheran Church, New Life Church and other community organizations. Learn more here.

Worthington’s Sassafras Bakery (657 High St.) has temporarily closed. In a Facebook post, owner AJ Perry says the bakery/café plans to reopen soon after a break.

Breakfast-centric restaurant chain First Watch announced that it is temporarily closing all of its restaurants, including 10 locations in the Columbus area, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
