Kolache Republic, which shuttered its South High Street café in February, is making a comeback. Known for its Czech pastries, the bakery is moving into the kitchen at The Daily Growler at 702 S. High St., just steps away from Kolache Republic’s original location in the Brewery District. An opening date has not yet been announced.
Pierogi Mountain announced it’s taking over the former Grass Skirt Tiki Room space at 105 N. Grant Ave. This will be the first stand-alone restaurant for owners Matt Majesky and Charlie Greene. The owners are targeting an August opening.
Congrats are in order for Law Bird, the cocktail and wine bar from Annie Williams Pierce and Luke Pierce. The Brewery District bar was recently named one of the best bars in America by Esquire magazine. The bar has been closed since the March shutdown, but the couple is launching a carryout cocktail program on Friday, June 12.
A new retail bakery called Bakes by Lo made its debut over the weekend at 5354 Center St. inside Hilliard’s new Center Street Market. Baker Laura Young specializes in decorated sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, granola and more.
Antiques on High (714 S. High St.) resumes operation this week in the Brewery District. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
Barcelona (263 E. Whittier St.) is open again with new hours. The longtime tapas restaurant in German Village will serve dinner daily and is adding Sunday brunch service from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Brioso Coffee (53 N. High St.) is open again at the corner of High and Gay Streets. Hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Market Italian Village (1022 Summit St.) is resuming dine-in and patio service on Friday, June 12, with limited hours. Reservations are recommended.
North High Brewing reopened Wednesday at 1288 N. High St. in the Short North. The taproom unveiled a new food menu featuring Bavarian pretzels, wings, salads and sandwiches. A Dublin location is expected to open this month at 56 N. High St., formerly Brazenhead.
Hot Chicken Takeover’s Easton shop (4198 Worth Ave.) resumed business this week after shutting down for more than two months. The location is offering curbside carryout and patio seating only. Orders may be placed on-site or by calling in.
Dan and Caroline Kraus’ small restaurant, Baba’s, has closed permanently after more than three years at 2515 Summit St., another victim of the coronavirus crisis.The Krauses announced the decision in a heartbreaking post on the Baba’s website: “Losing our business feels like a small loss when the world is on fire. We realize what a gem we had, and we want you and our family to remember her as she was.” In 2017, Columbus Monthly wrote about the couple’s struggle to open Baba’s. Read the story here.
Several local groups are teaming up on Sunday, June 14, for CBUS Truckside, a drive-thru food truck rally. The volunteer organization Can’t Stop Columbus is partnering with 614 Day Columbus, Ohio Food Truck Rally, StreetFoodFinder.com and Columbus Crew SC for the rally, which will take place at Mapfre Stadium from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Preordering is now live at streetfoodfinder.com/OFTR614Day.Information is critical.
