The event coincides with Ohio's tax-free shopping weekend.

Back-to-school time is just around the corner, and we’re kicking it off with a bang at our Back to School Expo, which features educational resources and fun. Meet the Master Model Builder from Legoland Discovery Center Columbus, enter to win great prizes and get all the information you need before your kids head back to class.

The FREE Back to School Expo, sponsored by Columbus Parent Magazine and ThisWeek Community News, is bigger and better than ever. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, along Fenlon Street at Easton.

The third annual event features a variety of exhibitors offering information, advice and deals, with a focus on educational resources. A back-to-school fashion show at 1 p.m. will feature styles and models from merchants including Athleta, Banana Republic and Macy’s.

Attendees also will find entertainment for adults and kids alike, including hourly interactive Lego builds by Legoland Master Model Builder Maxx Davidson, a chance for kids to build alongside Davidson, a sidewalk-chalk artist, face-painters, balloon artists and stilt-walkers.

More than $2,600 in prizes are up for grabs, including two fantastic grand prizes: an American Girl Luciana doll and Mom & Me Doll Hair Salon Spectacular visit, and an adventure vacation package from River Expeditions in West Virginia.

More than $1,800 in gift cards will be given away, from Easton merchants such as Café Zupas, Cheryl’s Cookies, Elements Massage, Forever 21, Lucky Shoes, New Balance and Piada Italian Street Food, plus gift cards to ZipZone Outdoor Adventures. Legoland Discovery Center Columbus will award a family annual pass package (good for up to four people) and three two-packs of tickets to the attraction, which is scheduled to open Sept. 21 at Easton. Lucky Shoes will offer a $300 in-store giveaway.

While you’re at the Expo, don’t forget to save some money on your back-to-school shopping! The event coincides with Ohio’s Tax-Free Weekend, a “sales tax holiday” that waives taxes on certain clothing and supply purchases made Aug. 3-5. These include clothing priced at $75 or less per item and school supplies and instructional materials costing $20 or less.

We hope to see you Aug. 4!
