An annual observance honoring them is on July 26.

So you’ve celebrated Mom and Dad on their recent holidays, but what about giving a shout-out to aunts and uncles? Aunts and Uncles Day will be observed July 26 this year, providing an opportunity for kids and their parents to say thanks to that extra set of adults who pitch in when Mom or Dad have their hands full.

But beyond providing support and attending birthday parties, aunts and uncles also can serve other important roles, according to My Family Digest. These trusted adults often serve as a confidant for a child who is struggling with something they don’t want to share with their mother or father, or can help a youngster pursue a new hobby that his or her parents don’t enjoy.

If the aunts and uncles in your life need some tips on bonding with your children, share these tips from AARP.

The advice includes being open, trustworthy, responsive and available, as well as keeping in touch and letting nieces and nephews help you, too.
