The April 22 event features free carousel rides—for kids and adults.
It’s a sure sign of spring when John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons opens for the season. The Downtown park will celebrate the occasion April 22 with free carousel rides and the opening of two on-site eateries.
The Commons will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., though the carousel won’t be available for rides until noon. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and Taquero Mad Street Food (the new brick-and-mortar branding for Tortilla Mexican Street Food) will serve customers during park hours.
The Commons hosts a series of family events throughout the year, the first of which is Family Fun Day on May 25. Children can participate in crafts, ride the carousel and play on inflatables (a $5 wristband is required). The event concludes with a free screening of “Ralph Breaks the Internet” at 8:15 p.m.
Other highlights include Commons for Kids, which takes place Fridays from June 7 to Aug. 9 (except July 5), as well as three free movies nights and four Thursday concerts scattered throughout the season.
