More than 100 events will take place around Columbus.

A first-of-its-kind communitywide celebration of science is taking over Central Ohio this week.

The COSI Science Festival, scheduled May 1-4, includes more than 100 events throughout the Columbus area—at libraries, community centers, schools, COSI and other venues. Families can learn about dozens of types of science with the science center, Battelle and other community partners. Topics include cooking, chemistry, engineering, web design—even beer, for the 21 and older set. A series of 15 Citywide Star Parties also is part of the fun. Almost all of the events are free.

The festival culminates with the Big Science Celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 4. The event, outside COSI, will feature hands-on science activities from more than 100 exhibitors.

COSI and Battelle announced the festival on the plaza outside of COSI on May 22, 2018, and planning has been underway ever since. Battelle pledged $850,000 in funding over three years for the COSI Science Festival as part of the nonprofit research and development giant’s ongoing goal to further STEM education.
