Operation Backpack and other efforts prepare children for class.

It’s back-to-school time, but not every family has the resources to send their student fully prepared to learn. To help fill some of those needs, Volunteers of America’s Operation Backpack program is working with NBC4’s Stuff the Backpack campaign to provide book bags and supplies to 25 school districts in Franklin and Licking counties.

Various items are needed. Check out the supply list, make an online donation and find drop-off locations on the Volunteers of America website. All donations must be received by Aug. 30.

The Operation Backpack initiative, which takes place in Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Indianapolis, aims to provide new backpacks and school supplies for at-risk and homeless children. In 2018, more than 4,800 backpacks were distributed.
