HARTVILLE The village has extended its current contract with Kimble Recycling and Waste Disposal for two more years.
Kimble Municipal Sales Representative Julie Monroy presented the company’s two-year extension offer to village council June 2. The offer includes a monthly increase to customers from $12.44 to $15.95. The second year of the contract will also be subject to a “2 to 3 percent (consumer price index) cost of living” increase, Monroy said.
She also noted that the village contract has not increased in the past five years and attributed the hike to international pressures, including requirements from China that recyclables contain less than .05 percent contaminants.
“(The industry was) making $113 for a bundle of paper and at the lowest point was paying $13 to take it away,” she said of the market change. “But Kimble is committed to recycling; we see it as the future.”
Monroy compared Kimble’s two-year extension offer to recent bids from other companies on comparable rubbish and recycling services in North Canton and Wooster. These bids ranged from $15.73 per month to $29.51 per month.
“We know it’s a jump, but we feel (the offer) is very competitive,” Monroy said. She added that the offer includes billing by Kimble and would not require any equipment to be switched out.
In otheer action, council also:
• Approved a board of zoning appeals recommendation to allow the reduction of required parking spaces, from 40 to 25, at a planned 7,200 square foot building behind North Plaza to house a shooting range, retail store and classroom.
• Agreed to work with Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Recycling District to determine a site for the relocation of seven recycling bins, currently located at the Hartville Flea Market. Steve Tharp, operations manager for the Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Recycling District, said the district pays its partner communities $2,500 per year and works with the communities to fund improvements to sites, such as lighting, fencing, Wi-Fi, cameras and concrete pads.
• Approved an Ohio Department of Transportation resurfacing project on State Route 619, within the village, from South Prospect Avenue to east of the village corporation limit.
• Rescheduled a livestreamed public hearing to 6:30 p.m. June 16 to discuss the proposed rezoning of property at 1116 Woodland St. from R-2 to R-3 zoning, for the purpose of expanding the building on the property from two apartments to five apartments.
