Food News: Dirty Frank’s coming soon to casino; Veritas somm heads to Lindey’s

Dirty Frank’s Hot Dog Palace is betting on the West Side once again. The funky hot dog shop announced the addition of a location inside the Hollywood Casino (200 Georgesville Road). The new location, expected to open next month, is a return to the West Side for Dirty Frank’s, which closed its Westgate location in 2017. Dirty Frank’s flagship eatery is located Downtown at 248 S. Fourth St.

Common Greens, the nonprofit that runs the Clintonville Farmers Market, is adding a weekly winter farmers market that will take place indoors on the plaza level of the Ohio History Center (800 E. 17th Ave.). The new market will kick off Saturday, Dec. 4. Shopping will be available onsite, but customers will also be able to preorder their provisions at clintonvillefarmersmarket.localfoodmarketplace.com. The market will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Dec. 4-18 and Jan. 8-April 16. In addition, guests to the Ohio History Center museum can "pay what you want" during market hours, ensuring greater access to the museum's educational resources regardless of income.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that the former Ruby Tuesday's at 3730 W. Dublin-Granville Road will be replaced by a Shake Shack and a Torchy's Tacos, according to information filed with the city. Danny Meyer’s Shake Shack already operates two Central Ohio locations at Easton Town Center and in the Short North. Founded in Austin in 2006, Torchy's tested out a Columbus ghost kitchen for a few months this year before shutting down but promising a return. This will be the taco shop’s first standalone storefront in Ohio. Also in Northwest Columbus, the Dispatch reports that Los Angeles-based Dave's Hot Chicken is coming to 3590 W. Dublin-Granville Road, a former Payless shoe store.

CM Chicken, aka Choong Man Chicken, is now open at 1132 W. Henderson Road, serving Korean fried chicken. The South Korean-based chain, founded in 2009, has multiple locations across the U.S.

Jack & Benny's Barnstormer Diner has reopened at the Ohio State University Airport (2160 W. Case Road). Owners Geno and Hilda Garcia-Mandriotti also own Jack & Benny’s in Clintonville. The airport diner is located in Hangar 1, next to the terminal.

Staff Moves 

Gregory Stokes, recently the general manager and sommelier at Veritas, is departing chef Josh Dalton’s modernist restaurant for a position as beverage manager at Lindey’s (169 E. Beck St.) in German Village. He starts the new gig this week. Stokes was named a Columbus Monthly Tastemaker in 2019 for turning the Veritas wine program into one of the most dynamic in the country, earning a spot on Wine Enthusiast’s list of the Top 100 Best Wine Restaurants in America in 2019. Recently, Stokes and Veritas chef/owner Josh Dalton opened a Downtown wine shop, Accent by Veritas. Reached Monday morning by phone, Stokes says he is leaving Veritas on “super amicable” terms with chef Dalton and will carry on as a business partner in the wine shop. “I wasn’t looking to leave, but [Lindey’s] made me an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Stokes says. “I’ve always worked for small, really artisanal restaurants, but I’ve never really done anything that’s higher volume. It’s going to be a new challenge, and I’m excited for it.”
