THE BACKSTORY: Jodi Kushins is an avid gardener, and daughter Cora has been right alongside her since she was a baby. Now that she's old enough to dig in the dirt instead of just watching, Cora helps plant seeds and seedlings under her mom's watchful eye. When we visited, they already were harvesting some produce—including salad greens and radishes—that had been planted and protected by a hoop house. They're sitting between rows of plants inside the structure in our cover photo.
