Try a Family Camp Weekend
Are your kids still raving about how much fun they had at summer camp? Or maybe you had a packed schedule and they couldn’t attend this year.
Either way, you may want to consider a family camping trip. Many camps offer weekends geared to family visits in the fall and spring. The events often include plenty of outdoor pursuits such as hiking, boating and sports coupled with programming and indoor activities. It’s a great way to see firsthand what your child does at summer camp or to introduce your youngster to the idea of trying camp next summer.
Family weekends also provide a way to enjoy the camping experience while letting someone else cook meals and plan activities.
Here are a few camps with upcoming family weekends:
• Camp Willson in Bellefontaine, Sept. 1-3, ymcacolumbus.org.s108415.gridserver.com/willson/familycamps
• Camp Akita in Logan, Aug. 31 to Sept. 3, campakita.org/pages/family_camp.aspx
• Camp Kern in Oregonia, Aug. 31 to Sept. 3, campkern.org/family-programs/family-camp.html
If you have a specific type of camp in mind, the American Camp Association offers a search feature at acacamps.org that allows users to search for a camp by location, activities or other criteria.
Finally, don’t forget that many churches and other organizations often have affiliated camps that welcome families.
